Coronavirus: Area sportswear company changing gears to fill void in COVID-19 fight

Lakeland area sportswear company switches from running apparel to producing medical face masks to keep afloat during the coronavirus pandemic.

LAKELAND — Leah Powell’s business, Bolder Athletic Wear, was a run-away success until the COVID-19 pandemic hit.

The sports apparel company begun in 2009 built its business on a single product, running skirts for women, said Powell, the founder, CEO and designer. Until October, the company was called “SparkleSkirts” but changed to reflect a wider product line, including Capri pants, leggings and men’s shorts.
